Cool & wet Thursday; Warm air on the way
WEDNESDAY FORECAST DISCUSSION: Did the sun trick you today? It looked warm, but it never really made it past the low to mid 50s. Overnight, we will see temperatures fall to near freezing, but how far the temperatures ultimately fall will depend a lot on cloud cover. A Freeze Warning has been issued for most of East Tennessee since temperatures are expected to be near or below freezing by Wednesday morning in Knoxville, the Smokies, the Tri-Cities, and across the Plateau. There might be patchy frost near Chattanooga, but a widespread freeze is not anticipated across the Southern Valley. The reason frost and freeze warnings are issued this time of year and not during the winter is because we are officially in the “growing season” now. Frost and freeze warnings are designed to help warn gardeners and the agriculture industry about potential crop killing cold temperatures. By Wednesday afternoon, highs are expected to be slightly warmer than today. Overall, expect highs to be between 56-60. Clouds increase during the day on Wednesday with rain becoming possible from southwest to northeast on late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The best chances of rain will be on Thursday and Thursday night with most of the rain moving out during the morning hours on Friday. Clearing takes place Friday night and warm, sunny weather is expected for the weekend. In fact, temperatures will be looking to hit and surpass the 70 degree mark over the weekend and into next week. The warm weather is arriving! -Meteorologist Jeremy Buckles
